Hindustan University Hosts Red Bull Racing F1 Static Car Experience

Chennai,  Aug, 2026 — Hindustan Institute of Technology and Science (Hindustan University) brought the high-octane world of motorsport to its campus on Wednesday, hosting the Red Bull Racing Formula 1 Static Car Experience at its Padur campus. The event, held from 8:30 AM to 11:00 AM, was organized by the university’s Department of Automobile Engineering in collaboration with its Motorsport Club and Red Bull Racing.

Red Bull Racing representatives showcased a static F1 car – RB14 and broke down the complex aerodynamics, design engineering, and performance features of the championship-grade machinery. Officials also led an interactive Q&A session, while the host departments ran a live F1 quiz for attending students.

“Our Automobile Engineering students were thrilled to see a Formula 1 car up close for the first time, rather than just watching it on television,” said Dr. Ashok George Verghese, Pro Chancellor of Hindustan University. “It is an experience that will undoubtedly stay with them for a lifetime.”

The event held particular significance given Red Bull Racing’s history in the country. The last Indian Grand Prix—held on October 27, 2013, at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida—saw Sebastian Vettel secure a landmark victory for Red Bull. Wednesday’s display offered aspiring engineers and local racing fans a rare opportunity for direct engagement with technical experts and photo opportunities with the car.

In addition to the F1 showcase, students from the Department of Automobile Engineering displayed two home-built vehicles that actively compete in national engineering challenges:

• Team Stalwartz (Baja ATV): Powered by a Kohler CH395 engine, this student-engineered off-road vehicle is designed to handle 5-foot jumps and rugged terrain. “The vehicle is engineered to tackle rough terrain with excellent maneuverability, durability, and suspension performance,” explained Prajin N.A., a fourth-year B.Tech Automobile Engineering student. He noted that the team has earned strong national standings, including driver Chris John securing second place in South India during the Suspension Test.

• Team Spitfire Racing (Go-Kart): Reaching top speeds of 120 km/h with an R15 V2 engine, this go-kart is built for rigorous acceleration, cornering, and endurance tests. “The team has consistently delivered strong results over the years, achieving podium finishes and earning recognition for both performance and engineering,” said Harish Kumar A., a fourth-year B.Tech Automobile Engineering student. The team recently placed 3rd overall (AIR 3) at DKDC 2025 in Goa and 5th overall (AIR 5) at FKDC 2025 in Coimbatore.
