Chennai, India – In a proud moment for Tamil Nadu and the Indian powerlifting community, Dr. Arathi Arun has officially become the state’s first and only Category-1 National Women’s Powerlifting Referee, certified by Powerlifting India, affiliated with the International Powerlifting Federation.
This milestone marks a new chapter in Dr. Arathi Arun’s journey — one already filled with remarkable achievements. A Commonwealth and Asian Powerlifting Gold Medalist, as well as a multiple-time National Champion, she has consistently broken barriers both on and off the platform.
Speaking about the recognition, Dr. Arathi shared, “It’s an honour to now represent Tamil Nadu not just as an athlete, but also as an official. This role comes with great responsibility, and I’m proud to pave the way for more women to step into leadership and officiating roles in strength sports.”
Her journey is a testament to grit, determination, and the evolving role of women in powerlifting — from lifting heavy weights to making heavyweight decisions as a national-level referee.
This certification places her among the top-tier officials in the country and highlights the growing inclusivity and recognition of women in Indian powerlifting.
